The material is as think as a Man's Dress Shirt, so even on the hottest days, it's not making your baby hotter.
The ties on the side allow you to attach the blanket to your carrier or your stroller. No matter how much your little munchkin kicks, he/she won't be able to kick it off.
I started using this item before my son was 6 months old, as you're not meant to put sunnscreen on babies under 6 months. Now I double up on protection when we're outside on those very hot & sunny days with both sunscreen and the blanket.
